On Saturday October 27, 2007 at 6 pm here in NYC a group of zombies will participate in a worldwide attempt to simultaneously dance with set choreography to Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Yes, the actual Thriller dance! Set to coincide with the 25 year anniversary of it's release. The event is known as Thrill The World.
Many people have expressed interest in participating and now is that time to get things rolling.
We are looking for:
-Dancers - we must have at least 25 to qualify for Guinness. MJ's video features about 2 minutes of the dance but the TTW (Thrill The World) version has been adapted to the 6 minute radio version of the song. The instructor makes it really easy to learn and there is a plethora of tools (video, script, MP3s at 4 different speeds) to help us learn. In addition, we will be doing our best to organize a series of training classes where we can all have space learn together and of course tons of fun.
Right now there is only one registered group in NYC and we had our first (very successful) rehearsal Tuesday night. If you want to dance with us, please email the organizers at ttweastcoasttribal@gmail.com. This way we can get you on the list and let you know when and where rehearsals are. You may also check us out at www.myspace.com/eastcoasttribal, news should be posted on the bulletin there to keep you informed.
The only real requirement to participate in the event is that you show up the day of in time for some dress rehearsals (costumes strongly suggested) and know the choreography (only counts if we all do the same dance at the same time.) You will not be required to show up to our organized rehearsals if you would rather do it on your own or with your own group of friends.
-Public Relations and/or Event Planners - we are looking for someone or
a couple of people to volunteer some of their time (I may be naive, but
I feel like it would only be a few hours) with the following tasks
-find rehearsal venues (either donated, sponsored or participants asked
for $5 donation at rehearsal) - we have a list of dance studios in NYC
-find event venue (either donated or sponsored)
-get the word out
-press release (basically written, we have a whole packet of materials)
-maybe find a sponsor (mostly needed for the 2 venue costs)
If you are interested in volunteering some time to help us with this aspect of the event it would be ever so helpful and look fabulous on you resume! You would not be required to dance at the event but are certainly welcome to. Please email me at stanfordcameron@yahoo.com as I volunteered to hunt you down.
7 Volunteers (possibly more) for the day of -
-at least 2 photographers
-at least 2 videographers
-2 Guinness Witnesses (in public standing)
-1 Guinness Steward per 20 people (doesn't have to be in public standing)
These volunteers will not be able to participate in the dance. Their only requirement is to show up for the event and do their thing. If you are interested in being a non participant volunteer, please email me or the organizers.
Now what you've been waiting for - links!
The official event website is www.thrilltheworld.com
Watch the instructor/main event organizer do the entire dance
The dance videos are on YouTube (thats clip 1 of 40, don't worry, it's
not as harrowing as it sounds. The first few clips are info and such
and well worth watching before you start)
You can view MJ's original full length video YouTube as well
So lets go eat some brains!
