Michael and I recently purchased a duel membership to the MoMA. My card says Ms. Cameron Stanford, have to get that changed according to the woman who scanned me in. Matty is in town so we went to see some art yesterday.
Started at the top. First there was the Edvard Munch exhibit which was so crowded we zipped through half then moved on to On Site : New Architecture in Spain exhibit which was really interesting, makes me want to visit Spain. Then we made our way down through the permanent collections. There were a few artists who's work I've not been that interested in before that caught my eye, like seeing the works for the first time, such as Edward Hopper, Marc Chagall, and Henri Rousseau.
My favorite exhibition was Without Boundary: Seventeen Ways of Looking (visit the link for the fancy pants explanation). Lots of really beautiful works; my favorite being the one pictured above (the picture is an injustice to the work). Titled The Garden of Earthly Delights III (2003) by Raquib Shaw (Born 1974 in Clacutta, India. Lives and works in London. Mixed media on 3 10'x5' panels) the detail is mesmerizing, the colors are vibrant, and it takes up the entire wall. I spent the most time of any other work that day in front of this one. Getting up close then backing up, back and forth. I was fascinated.
