A year and a half we moved out to Bushwick, a.k.a. the middle of nowhere. I guess it's all hip to be out here like braving the new frontier. It's alright because you get alot for your money. On the other hand, the grocery store isn't much more than a Goya rice and beans outlet, there's no bank, no decent restaurants (well, there's 1 as you'll see), no bars, no shops, no gym, etc...
A few months ago a new restaurant opened a few blocks away from us. I don't know why it took us so long to go check it out but I'm soooo happy we did. It's called Northeast Kingdom and it's on the corner of Wyckoff Ave and Troutman (Jefferson subway stop on the L train).
It's a really nice space, corner location, lots of windows (not that there's a view to speak of) and looks like a small version of a dining room at a lodge somewhere much more natural than the concrete factory industrial neighborhood it resides in. I like that it's not what you would expect.
And the food is excellent. The chicken pot pie is the best I've ever had, no doubt. The crust is perfectly flaky and buttery and the filling avoids 2 of the biggest pitfalls for chicken pot pie - it's not thick and goopy and the chicken isn't overcooked. I crave it now. Everything else we've tried has been just as good. Even brunch (the quiche was thoroughly yumilicious).
There's a nice bar to saddle up to as well.
If you find yourself out here in East East East Williamsburg hankerin' for some tasty morsels or to wet your whistle, stop on by for a breath of fresh air.
